1945/1960 - Starting of the operations in the steelmaking industry.

After the foundation of Techint in 1945, the company entered the steelmaking industry with the construction of a steel tube production plant for Dalmine Safta, later Siderca, in Campana (Argentina), and for Tamsa in Veracruz (Mexico). Both plants began operations in 1954, and today are part of Tenaris.

1960/1980 - Steel plants become the core business of the Techint Group.

During the 1960’s, the company designed, built, and started-up a plant for Propulsora Siderurgica (later Siderar) in Ensenada (Argentina). This was the first phase of an integrated-cycle plant for hot and cold flat rolling production and now is part of Ternium.
During this period, Techint constructed several steel plants in Italy, Argentina, Venezuela, and Mexico - hot and cold rolling, continuous casting, heat treatment for tubes, and electric steel mills - for customers that were industry leaders: Italsider-Italimpianti, Dalmine, Siderca, Falck, Sidor, Tamsa, Breda, and many others.

1980/2000 - Acquisitions drive expansion in the steel business.

Techint Technologies was established. The new company was expanded with the acquisition of Pomini and Giustina International, two leading roll grinder manufacturers; Intersteel Technology (USA), with its leading-edge “Consteel^®” technology; and a branch of the business of Italimpianti comprising reheating and heat treatment furnaces, strip processing lines, and material handling systems. The acquisition of Italimpianti also marked the entry of Techint Technologies’ subsidiaries: IT Deutschland and Tagliaferri, a long-standing electric furnace company.
Moreover, two new technologies were acquired to enhance the electric furnace offer: Germany’s Köster technology for oxygen and coal powder injection in EAF, and the US EMCI technology for vacuum degassing.

2000/2005 - Internationalization.

Techint Technologies acquires Canada’s Goodfellow Efsop™, a well-known process control system for EAF; Mexico’s HYL Technologies, world leader in the supply of gas based direct reduction plants; and Italy’s Presind, a specialist in automation and control system for strip processing lines. Some joint ventures are established also: Techint Semf in Australia, to operate in handling equipment and systems, and Timec in China, a manufacturing facility serving Tenova and others active in bbbbls and other industries. The Timec factory was inaugurated and began production in 2006.

2005 to now

Techint Technologies became Tenova to have an independent and strong identity in the marketplace. With the acquisition of LOI Thermprocess, an international German supplier of high-quality industrial furnaces for the steel and aluminum industry, Tenova became the world’s leading furnace manufacturer. The acquisition of Austria’s Key Solutions, an important player in acid regeneration plants, enhanced Tenova’s pickling lines.

Tenova’s acquisition strategy continued with the entry of Pyromet, the leading South African company in Submerged Arc Furnaces for the production of ferroalloys, and Germany’s TAKRAF, a worldwide leader in open pit mining equipment and systems that complements and strengthens Tenova’s bulk materials handling business.

Tenova also bbbbed two joint ventures in India to strengthen its presence in the Country: Tenova Hypertherm, with an Indian engineering company in the reheating and strip processing furnace business; and Tenova Multibbbb, set up by Tenova and Multibbbb Machinery, a specialist in cold rolling mills and strip processing lines.

Tenova has also acquired two American companies: Core Furnace Systems, a leader on the North American market for industrial furnaces and electric smelting/refining furnaces, and I2S (Intergrated Industrial Systems) a leading manufacturer of state of the art rolling mill equipment and control systems for the ferrous and non-ferrous bbbbls industry.

Tenova has strenghtened its bbbbbbbb as a player committed to environmental sustainability and energy recovery with the establishment of Re Energy, a new company in Germany specialized in heat recovery and energy efficiency for industrial furnaces.
